Red’s attacker Roberto Firmino is set to leave Liverpool after 8 seasons at the club. Roberto Firmino and his family have decided to pursue another challenge away from Liverpool. Firmino has made 353 appearances scoring 107 goals and assisting 78 times.
Early career
Figueirense 2009/10
During his early days Club de Regatas Brasil dentist Marcellus Portella took notice of 15-year-old Firmino and took him under his wing. Most importantly Firmino took the opportunity with both hands and impressed at Figueirense at one of his trial sessions.
Roberto Firmino Barbosa de Oliveira started his playing career at Figueirense at the age of 17. He played for the U17 side until Jan 2010 and was transferred to the senior team. While in Brazil Firmino played 38 times and scored 8 times before a transfer to 1899 Hoffenheim in December 2010.
Senior Career
1899 Hoffenheim (2011-2015)
Roberto Firmino signed a four-year contract for 4 million euros for German side 1899 Hoffenheim in December 2010 and arrived on 1 January 2011. On signing the Brazilian manager Ernst Tanner was very pleased on securing the talented player.
2010/11 Season
Subsequently Firmino did not make the team for the first six games and made his debut against FSV Mainz 05 on the 26th of February 2011. The coach initially sent him in as a second half substitute working him into the first team. Firmino was used as a right winger mostly and played as an attacking midfielder on occasion. In his first season he played 11 games for 1899 Hoffenheim scoring 3 goals with no assists.
2011/12 Season
In the 2011/12 season Firmino’s role in the team grew significantly. Firmino secured the his role in the team as an attacking Midfielder and left winger for the German side. He caught the eye with some inspired performances particularly on the 17th of September 2011 against VfL Wolfsburg. Playing as a second striker he scored twice in a 3-1 win. In short, he played 33 games scoring 7 goals and giving 4 assists. Unfortunately, he missed the last three games of the season with a torn lateral collateral ligament.
2012/13 Season
Roberto Firmino’s second full season in the Bundesliga was challenging for both the forward and the club. Hoffenheim struggled in the league failing to win its first 3 games. The team failed to provide consistent performances in the league failing to put any consistent runs. As a result, coaches Markus Babbel and Marco Kurz paid with their jobs. Firmino also suffered failing to secure a consistent role in the team being played across the frontline. However, he managed to play 36 games scored 7 goals and provided 4 assists.
2013/14 Season
The 2013/14 season marked the third full season for Firmino and the first full season under coach Markus Gisdol. After surviving the playoffs, the previous season Hoffenheim had a much better season. Firmino’s side finished 9th in the Bundesliga and reached the quarter finals of DFB-Pokal. The 2013/14 season was the most prolific of Roberto Firmino’s career in Germany scoring 16 goals (4th highest scorer). The season’s performances in attacking midfield caught the eye of many top European clubs with 16 assists.
2014/15 Season
Firmino did not enjoy the same form as the previous season. All in all, Firmino played 36 times for Hoffenheim scoring 10 goals and providing 12 assists.
In conclusion Firmino made 153 appearances and made 49 over four and a half seasons at 1899 Hoffenheim.
Liverpool (2015-2023)
2015/16 season
On 23 June 2015 Hoffenheim and Firmino agreed terms to transfer the forward to Liverpool for 41 million euros. Firmino represented Liverpool in the Premier League, League cup and Europa League making 49 appearances for the Reds. He scored 11 goals and provided 11 assists playing as a centre-forward predominantly. Firmino was the third top scorer in all competitions behind Daniel Sturridge and Phillipe Coutinho. He benefited from the appointment of Jurgen Klopp.
2016/17 season
The 2016/17 season marked the first full season under Jurgen Klopp. Firmino played predominantly as a false nine/centre-forward and left winger. During the season Firmino completed 41 appearances missing two games due to a groin strain and muscle problems. In all competitions Roberto Firmino scored 12 goals and assisted 11 times in all competitions. Firmino helped the team achieve a 4th place finish and secure passage into the champions league. His performances earned him a new contract at the club.
2017/18 season
Following an impressive run the previous season Liverpool increased their fire power upfront and signed Mohamed Salah from Roma. As a result, the combination of Salah, Firmino and Mane formed one of the most formidable attack partnerships in Europe. In all competitions the deadly competition scored a total of 91 goals with Firmino getting a total of 27 goals in all competitions. Most importantly this was his best haul at Liverpool earning the team a run to the champions league Final. Liverpool finished 4th in the league.
2018/19 season
Collectively the season saw Liverpool finishing second in the league with only one defeat all season in the Premier League. Liverpool lifted the Champions league after defeating fellow English side Tottenham Hotspur. Firmino followed up in 2019/20 with a 16-goal haul and 7 assists in all competitions.
2019/20 season
In the 2019/20 season Liverpool won their 19th League title in addition to the UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club world Cup. The season was suspended due to Covid-19 Pandemic however this did not deter them. Roberto played 52 times scoring 12 times and assisting his teammates 13 times.
2020/21 season
After winning their 19th League title Liverpool and Firmino experienced a difficult season. Games were played behind closed doors due to Covid-19 pandemic and injuries to key players. Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk suffered long term injuries however Firmino remained as a pillar of strength making 48 appearances.
However Roberto failed to make an impact in front of goal with just 9 goals and 9 assists in all competitions. The team made it into the top 4 by regaining their form towards the end of the season.
2021/22 Season
Liverpool regained its form having one of the most memorable seasons in the club’s history. Liverpool played every game they were eligible to play. Liverpool secured the FA cup and EFL Cup and finished as runners up in the Premier League and UEFA champions League. Roberto Firmino made 35 appearances scoring 11 times two more than the previous season. Firmino assisted his teammates 5 times making it one of his lowest hauls at Liverpool.
2022/23 Season
The Brazilian has made 27 appearances this season scoring 10 times and assisting 5 times.
